Matt Pelissier was the former drummer and co-founder of the band. Matt originally met up with Gerard at a local club. Gerard asked him if he would add some drum tracks behind his rough version of the first My Chemical Romance song ‘Skylines And Turnstiles’. After Matt agreed to play the drum tracks the two became the first members of the band. Matt continued to play all of the drums for the bands first album ‘I Brought You My Bullets, You Brought Me Your Love’, and their second album ‘Three Cheers For Sweet Revenge’. As he was a part of the band so long he can be seen in all of the bands earlier music videos such as ‘Vampires Will Never Hurt You’ and the original version of ‘Im Not Okay (I Promise)’.
In 2004 during a tour in Japan Matt was kicked out of the band and quickly replaced by current drummer Bob Bryar, who, at that time, was working as a sound mixer for the band ‘The Used’. After being kicked from the band Matt worked as a mechanic in his home state of New Jersey, and in the summer of 2006 he and a friend, George Collazo began Strong Arm Studios, a recording studio located in Harrison, New Jersey. None of the remaining members have confirmed why Matt was kicked from the band but it was apparently due to a personality clash with lead guitarist Ray Toro.
“It’s that kind of thing that, there’s a lot that doesn’t need to be said about it.”
