LeATHERMØUTH are a post-hardcore band led by Frank Iero, who plays rhythm guitar. The band were formed in 2007 by a group of Frank’s friends who had all previously been in other bands. Not long after My Chemical Romance finshed their tour, Leathermouth played three demo tracks for Frank in one of their cars one evening. Frank liked what he heard and instantly wanted to get involved.
“I was like, ‘Wow, this is really good,’ and from that second, I wanted to be a part of it somehow, but I had too much shit on my hands. So they were like, ‘Oh, well, we have this friend who is going to try to sing, and we’ll see how it rolls from there.’ I was like, ‘All right,’ because I have a label, and I was thinking maybe down the line, if it works with the vocals, maybe I can sign it and be involved that way.”
A few months later after finishing another My Chemical Romance tour, Frank asked his friends about their progress with the band. He was told that due to the lead singer not writing any lyrics, the band was not going ahead. Frank was shocked by this and decided to write the band lyrics himself.
“I said, ‘Are you fucking kidding me? Give me a week. I’ll write some lyrics, we’ll rent a practice studio and see what happens.’ And that’s how it went down.”
